I want to take this opportunity to commend Andrew George for taking the initiative to organize the meeting on the Pither’s Point Park issue on April 1 at the East End Hall.
I am amazed that there has been so little public information or discussion on this important topic. The broad community is in the dark. There are lots of questions and assumptions.
Intergenerational ill feelings from unresolved issues fester.
It is very commendable that a young person not only has the passion and interest in a political issue that affects the broad community, but also has taken the initiative to bring the issue into the open. He made an effort to work towards an understanding and, hopefully, some appreciation for the perspectives of all concerned.
The Right Relations Circle is facilitating a follow-up on that topic. Resource person Clint Calder, a local lawyer, will present his perspective of the historical and legal framework, as well as a larger overview. There will be time for questions, group input, and discussion.
This event is slated for Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit (824 Victoria Ave.)
It would be great if the leaders and decision-makers of the various communities involved in this issue could be present to present their views. However, I am told that none of these people want to say anything that might affect their position while the matter is under litigation.
I respect their position. Nevertheless, I encourage these leaders to be present so they can listen to the views of the grassroots people who elect them to office.
Times’ reporter Duane Hicks also did a great job of covering the meeting that Andrew George organized. It would be appreciated if Duane and Andrew could cover this meeting, as well.
