Dear editor,
We’ve been avid readers of the Fort Frances Times for decades and are grateful for the vital part The Times plays in keeping our community informed and entertained. Your article “Times past and future” summarized it well for us.
Over years past the editorial page of this newspaper published the enduring Biblical account og the first Christmas. Your readers missed that the last couple Christmases.
Once again this Christmas Eve, residents as well as passers-by on Hwy 11 were treated to the well-lit almost life-size Nativity scene in a prominent location. The folks who fashioned and faithfully displayed this reminder of the first Christmas are to be commended.
The birth of Christ is a pivotal historical event and we do well to ponder it deeply, not only for its historical significance, but for its relevance to each one of us.
Looking to Christmas in the rear-view mirror now, we realize the well-loved carols say it well:
“Joy to the world! The Lord is come; let Earth receive her King.” (Isaac Watts, 1719)
“Oh holy child of Bethlehem! Descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin, and enter in;
Be born in us today.” (Phillips Brooks, 1868)
As we embark on the New Year 2023, it’s good to remember “He’s only a prayer away”.
Thank you for the space in your paper.
Happy New Year!
Yours truly,
Marina Gerber
