C’est beau

Bonjour,
We are students from École catholique de Fort Frances. Throughout the school year, we have accomplished a lot of things. Please allow us to share our moments with you.
At the beginning of the year, we went to the Memorial Sports Centre and participated in swimming for the fall session. We are swimming again next year and plan to include gymnastics as yet another exciting activity.
We were privileged to have a hot meal every Friday, prepared for us by our teachers. Our teacher, Mme Pelletier, was happy to invite us to her house for barbecues throughout the year, as well.
We began our studies by taking part in an exploration of the ocean. We looked at the various animals that live in the ocean and the plants that thrive in that habitat.
To culminate everything at the end of the unit, we had a “seafood” community supper, consisting of a variety of seafood and food baked in the shape of fish.
October came along and we partied with other classes for Hallowe’en. It was fun dressing up. At our annual Christmas concert, we performed a play based upon the legend of “How the Fir Tree Became the Christmas Tree.”
We enjoyed a few weeks of winter holidays, then returned to school to start a space theme. We learned about the various planets in the solar system, made some model planets, and looked at books related to space.
February brings about a special day called Valentine’s Day, which we shared with other classes from St. Francis School. We played games to raise money for the school.
We also had the unique opportunity to travel to the Kennedys’ cabin for a day field trip to study rocks and minerals.
Students in Grades 4-6 prepared French speeches, which we presented at the Rainy River District speech contest. In correlation with Holy Week, our class drew murals of the stations of the cross and displayed them in the hallway at our school.
In May, we put on a fashion show with the Grade 4 and 5 French Immersion students, which was the culmination of two months’ work on textiles.
At the end of the year, we enjoyed a three-day excursion to Thunder Bay. We visited Old Fort William, the art gallery, the children’s festival, Wiggles ’N Giggles, Silver City Theatre, and the Intercity Mall.
All throughout the year, we had the chance to earn money based on our work efforts; with this money, we had the privilege of purchasing items in our in-class store.
Every Wednesday, the Grade 4-6 students enjoyed English class taught to us by Mr. Hands. We put on a few plays, read a few novels, wrote stories and poetry, and made movie posters and collages. We enjoyed English class very much.
It’s amazing that we were able to do all of these fun things, plus learn what we needed to know in the curriculum. C’est beau!
