Care Close to Home

As a citizen, client, and caregiver I am once again so baffled by an institution whose motto is “Care Close to Home”.

Earlier this year Riverside severed the ties with the Foundation. To date no explanation as to why. Now all donor displays are turned off. I always admired each family, friend, business’s, corporations and municipalities who make these generous donations to the respective institutions. I am grateful that you care enough to make available resources so vital to our well being.

As a former caregiver I was inspired by your acknowledgement and proud to be a team member of such a worthy profession.

In my 50+ years of service I have never seen such an erosion of true accountability since Riverside has taken control from the Grey Nuns and The Red Cross Societies. What once was an enthusiastic privilege to give generously, now feels like an apathetic obligation to give from the head and not from the heart.

Even if this closure of the donor walls is done unintentionally and only temporarily and again no public explanation given, you have shown total disregard for a compassionate giving heart but more blatantly disrespect for the memory of the ones who are so cherished. Fifty years ago the motto Care Close to Home was never plastered on the walls of each institution. It was instilled, inspired and exemplified on each and every team member’s heart. Thanks to the great management and leadership of the Grey Nuns of LaVerendyre and the matrons of the Red Cross Hospital in Rainy River and Emo. How far we have fallen.
