In response to the Wednesday, Jan. 29 article in the Fort Frances Times entitled, “Mayor sees great potential in district.”
I, like other union members, take exception to the portion of the statement that Mayor Glenn Witherspoon is a big booster to Northwestern Ontario. If Glenn were, he most certainly wouldn’t have backhanded union members like he did.
Union members have been—and will continue to be—of significant financial impact regionally, and to even suggest that we would slow the growth and vitality of our own union membership by resisting apprentices is ridiculous.
Glenn, we want more apprentices, but the provincial government is supposed to supply the financial incentive and employers do the hiring, not the trade union.
So how can it be the trade unions’ fault!
