Appalled

Paul Pirie

Dear editor:
I am absolutely appalled at town council’s decision to not go ahead with the library project.
Don’t they understand that in this day and age of dwindling employment prospects, education is more important than ever? (there always seems to be cash for anything to do with hockey here, though).
I’ve seen the numbers of young people who regularly utilize the existing service increasing steadily over the past few years—and they deserve better!
I can tell you one thing, any councillor who voted against this will never get my vote again, and I’m not the only one who is of similar opinion!
I’m reminded of the concert hall and the community pool in Thunder Bay a few years ago. Many bemoaned that they were not only unwanted and unnecessary, but that the city would never be able to pay for them.
Well, they did. And most people in Northwestern Ontario now not only support and utilize them constantly, but are grateful that the projects went ahead despite the nay-sayers and soul-less bean counters.
