Winners all

The district’s own version of the Oscars takes place Saturday night when the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce hosts its 10th-annual Business Awards Gala at La Place Rendez-Vous—and no doubt all the nominees are waiting with bated breath to hear the words, “And the winner is. . . .”
But while only one individual or business can take home the plaque in each category Saturday night, all the nominees are winners for being singled out as the best our district has to offer in terms of business skills and drive, entrepreneurship, customer service, workplace safety, and volunteerism.
It’s gratifying to see so many nominees this year, particularly in the new category of “Business Woman of the Year.” The number of women who own and operate successful ventures locally is a real asset to our area—and long overdue to be recognized.
The Chamber of Commerce, meanwhile, deserves praise for its decade-long effort to highlight and salute all the many “good news” stories among the district’s business community.
True, small- and medium-sized businesses continue to face many challenges and obstacles day in and day out, but the number and quality of the 80-plus nominees up for various awards Saturday night clearly shows the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well right across the district.
And that benefits all of us.
Congratulations and good luck to all the nominees. But most important, thanks for your role in providing a wide variety of quality goods and services , jobs, and that all-important tax base which helps keep our municipalities strong and vibrant.
