We have just held another July 1 celebration and ball tournament in Barwick, as we have done for years and years. With a few exceptions, the same faces were there once again trying to organize and put on this day of celebration.
Visitors from Minnesota, Manitoba, and other communities commented that we had a very good parade for a small town, though entries were less than usual.
To those who did help out with the organizing and judging of the parade, supervising the children’s games, and working in the canteen and at the ball tournament, thank you very much.
What we need now are some of the younger parents and community-minded people to come on board and help with these activities. The parade, games, and baseball are there for your children.
Without more people coming forward, July 1 celebrations at Barwick, which have been taking place almost since the establishment of our community, will fall by the wayside—or totally die out.
The township also can use new faces on the recreation board and heritage committee. The old faces are running out of steam. If you would like to be a part of either of these groups, leave your name at the township office or call someone on the heritage committee and let us know what you would be willing to do.
If you are able to help out at “Chapple Days” at the Both farm on July 28-29, call any member of the heritage committee or the Chapple office.
Don’t let our community events disappear. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.
