Support move

It’s great to hear that the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is returning to where it belongs—under the tent at the Sorting Gap Marina.
The Ice For Kids Arena is a top-notch facility but it never could match the atmosphere the riverfront offered. Sure, you’re at the whims of Mother Nature but who wants to be inside on a July weekend, whether it’s watching the daily weigh-ins or attending the nighttime entertainment?
The change in venue, however, while a welcome move after three years at the Memorial Sports Centre, needs support in order to be successful. The main reasons the tournament left the marina in the first place revolved around the expense and the amount of manpower required for setting up and taking down the tent.
Nick Beyak of Sunset Country Ford, the tournament’s title sponsor, reportedly has stepped up financially to make the return possible. What’s also needed, though, is solid attendance during the FFCBC—both at the weigh-ins and nightly concerts/dances—in order to boost revenues to help cover the cost.
Equally important is people volunteering to help at the site, particularly the teardown afterwards, which routinely is left to too few individuals to accomplish.
People wanted the bass tournament back at the Sorting Gap Marina and the board of directors listened. The real question now is whether those people will be there come July to support the move with their hands and their wallets.
The change of venue is moot if no one is willing to help out or show up.
