Salute our youth

Do you know a young person who selflessly gives their time to promote a cause, help a neighbour, or otherwise make a difference in our community?
If so, please nominate him or her as an Ontario Junior Citizen—the annual awards program co-ordinated by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (of which the Fort Frances Times is a member), and sponsored by TD Bank Financial Group and Direct Energy.
Open to Ontario residents aged six-17, individuals can be nominated for their involvement in worthwhile community service, contributing to their community while living with a physical or psychological limitation, having performed an act of heroism in the past year, or showing a commitment to make life better for others above and beyond what normally is expected of someone their age.
Each nominee will receive a certificate of recognition. As well, up to 12 nominees will be chosen as the final recipients of the provincial award and invited to a special ceremony in Niagara Falls in the spring.
Nomination forms are available at www.ocna.org or by calling the OCNA at 1-905-639-8720 ext. 239, with the nomination deadline being Nov. 30.
Several Rainy River District youth have been honoured as Ontario Junior Citizens over the years, and countless more nominated. Help keep up this fine tradition by recognizing the extraordinary young people in our midst who truly understand what the word “community” is all about.
As this year’s motto states: “There’s one in every crowd.” It is just a matter of picking them out.
Take the time to nominate an outstanding young person today as our way of saying thanks for the great work they do.
