No doubt there will be plenty of local viewers, particularly those who are personal friends with the Shotgun Exploration crew, when Season 2 of “Fool’s Gold” debuts Tuesday, Sept. 8 on Discovery.
And if the popularity of Season 1 is any indication, which included being picked up in several countries around the world, it should be another hit. In fact, the goal of team leader Todd Ryznar is for “Fool’s Gold” to surpass “Highway Thru Hell” as Discovery’s number-one show.
Hey, why not shoot for the top?
It appears that Discovery is on the “Fool’s Gold” bandwagon, too, as Season 2 will feature 12 episodes—up from eight in its inaugural season.
“Fool’s Gold,” as the title certainly suggests, features plenty of antics, gaffes, redneck behaviour, and makeshift equipment as the Shotgun Exploration gang looks to hit the mother lode at Straw Lake. Whether they ever strike it rich there remains to be seen.
What’s equally clear, though, is that they are no “fools.” By thinking outside the box, Ryznar & Co. have hit paydirt in a different way through transforming their fledging exploration company into a TV show that’s proving to be a ratings bonanza; not to mention spin-off benefits such as added revenue from merchandising opportunities and the likes.
It’s that kind of thinking that’s so refreshing to see—and more of which is much-needed here in Rainy River District.
Kudos to Shotgun Exploration for showing what’s possible with a little ingenuity and risk-taking, and best wishes on a successful Season 2.
