It’s been tremendous to see the momentum build behind the Fort Frances Curling Club’s bid to win $25,000 towards its geothermal project in the “Kraft Celebration Tour.”
The foresight and effort required just to enter the annual competition is laudable—and it paid off when Fort Frances was named as one of the 20 finalists back on June 30. Most impressive, though, has been the excellent work by an organizing committee since then to lay the groundwork for the 24-hour online voting showdown against Dryden that runs from 11 a.m. this Friday until 10:59 a.m. on Saturday.
They’ve worked virtually non-stop to rally the community to the cause, line up celebrity curlers to lend their support, stage a greeting for a TSN camera crew, as well as nail down computers and locations to make it as convenient as possible for residents to cast votes.
They’re even prepared to stay up all night Friday to enter votes.
Kudos, as well, to the local businesses, organizations, and institutions that have stepped to the plate.
But while the committee has done everything right to set up the end, so to speak, it’s now up to the rest of us to deliver that final stone to secure victory.
Visit the “Kraft Celebration Tour” website during the voting period and click on the Fort Frances Curling Club’s bid. And the more times, the better. Beating Dryden certainly won’t be easy given that community has been working equally hard to garner regional support for its new outdoor track project, which is why every vote will count.
Help the curling club land $25,000, as well as bring a live taping of TSN’s SportsCentre and a Kraft community barbecue to town.
Let’s do this—together! Then cross our collective fingers for good news on Monday evening.
