Congratulations to the organizers of the inaugural Community Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt for staging what seemed to be a highly-successful event here Saturday morning.
A tip of the hat to the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club for coming up with the idea and kudos to all the Scott Street businesses that took part.
Like any first-time event, no doubt there were a few hiccups—most notably the fact that organizers had planned for about 200 kids and almost 350 showed up!
Then again, that’s not exactly a bad problem to have. Clearly there was plenty of community support for the event, which certainly bodes well for next year.
Let’s just hope Mother Nature will be a little more co-operative.
Meanwhile, it’s great to see district municipalities working together to host the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association’s annual general meeting, which runs tonight through Friday at the Memorial Sports Centre here.
It’s an excellent opportunity to showcase our beautiful area and welcoming nature to delegates from across the region. And with Premier Kathleen Wynne and several cabinet ministers scheduled to attend, what better chance to impress upon the provincial government the needs and challenges facing our respective communities.
Fort Frances would not have been able to host this conference without district support. Hopefully, it makes everyone realize how much stronger we are when we pull together, not apart.
Last but not least, a big hand to the Fort Frances Lakers for rallying from a 3-1 deficit to force Game 7 of the SIJHL final, which goes tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
After losing in the final the past two seasons, let’s hope the third time’s the charm and the Bill Salonen Cup is awarded to our local squad.
Go Lakers!
