Good luck, anglers

Offering a first prize of $50,000 to celebrate its 10th year, as well as inviting back all the past winners, another Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is off to a roaring start.
Festivities began Sunday with 39 teams plying Rainy Lake in hopes of capturing the Kid-Pro title. Monday night saw more than 300 teens turn out for the MuchMusic Video Dance Party, while another large crowd lined the route from the old CN station to the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina to watch the annual parade of boats yesterday evening.
The “Battle of the Bands” then rocked the night away.
Now the real action begins.
The anglers hit the water tomorrow, with the first flight heading out from the dock at Pither’s Point at 7 a.m. Only time will tell if the days of pre-fishing pay off come Saturday afternoon for the 138 teams vying for the tournament crown—a far cry from the 47 that competed in the inaugural FFCBC in 1995.
Will 55 pounds be enough to win this time around? Can a team string together three 20-pound days? Will there be a new record “big fish” this year? And what might Mother Nature have up her sleeve to throw a wrench into the best laid plans of the anglers?
In the end, the anglers always deliver a great show, which is why area residents have embraced the FFCBC over the years—and which is why Fort Frances is now the place to be each July.
Good luck to all the anglers. May the fishing be great, and may you keep spreading the word about how wonderful this area is.
