Fort Frances always has prided itself on being a hockey town, and rightfully so. But though it may not have as high a profile, our area is no slouch when it comes to curling, either.
With that in mind, it’s great to see not one but two bids were submitted to nominate the Fort Frances Curling Club for the Kraft Celebration Tour competition.
Now it’s up to the rest of us to help propel the club to be among the 20 finalists and—ultimately—one of the 10 winners of $25,000 and the chance to host a live broadcast of TSN’s SportsCentre.
A panel of judges currently is wading through the 629 nominations to choose the top 20, which will be announced June 30. Residents can help at this stage by visiting the Kraft Celebration Tour website and showing their support for the local bids to help sway the judges as to why Fort Frances deserves to advance to the final round.
Those 20 then will be paired off into head-to-head match-ups to determine the 10 winners, which will be decided via a 24-hour online vote between July 8-20.
Kudos to Patrick Briere/Ron Silver and Hailey Beaudry for taking the bull by the horns in submitting their bids. Like the Kraft “Hockeyville” and WFN “Ultimate Fishing Town” competitions, this is an excellent opportunity to showcase the curling talent of all ages our area produces as well as the top-notch facility we have in the Fort Frances Curling Club.
Equally important, it offers a great way to generate community spirit and pride by rallying residents together in a common cause.
Hey, Fort Frances, let’s toot our own horn! Here’s our chance to help the curling club land $25,000 in much-needed funding and put our town on the map with a visit from TSN.
Let’s show Canada why we call this beautiful area home.
