Critical role

Mother Nature certainly hasn’t co-operated with “Snoasis 3”—not that a whole lot of people, anxious to give winter the boot, are complaining.
Fortunately, organizers are taking it all in stride and even having a little fun with it, unofficially renaming the event “Puddles of Paradise.”
With March Break a week later this year, organizers conceded they were pushing their luck. What’s important, however, is that a group like the “Friends of the Museum” has taken the reins in planning an annual outdoor winter event for local youngsters and deserve full marks for their efforts.
Certainly cancelling “Snoasis” outright, due to the obvious lack of snow, would have been the easy way out. Instead, the group opted to play the hand it was dealt and is forging ahead this Saturday—rightly recognizing that events such as these rely on momentum in order to keep going year after year.
Kudos, as well, to the Rainy River District Substance Abuse Prevention Team and the Fort Frances Public Library for holding various activities this week in conjunction with March Break.
Looking ahead, the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club is staging its second-annual “Egg-Stravaganza” on Scott Street on Easter Saturday (April 4) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. after last year’s inaugural event proved to be overwhelming popular.
Hopefully, it will be just as successful this year.
All clubs and groups that stage events for local families to enjoy together play a critical role in making our communities better places to live.
Their only reward? Seeing good turnouts—and plenty of happy faces—to show their efforts are not in vain.
