Successful fishing tournament and harvest supper events held

Naicatchewenin (Northwest Bay) Held another successful fishing tournament last Friday and Saturday (September 30 and October 11). A total of 26 teams fished and when the final weigh-ins were completed the top team was Duff and Tyler Mosbeck taking home $4,000.

Second place was taken by Leroy Wilson and Mike Graham with third going to Cole Godbout and Braedon Keast.

This event is always enjoyed by all fishing and attending. I’ve been many times and the volunteers and organizers work hard to promote a successful tournament. There are always lots of family teams, husband and wives, fathers and sons, grandsons are attending with their grandparents. Truly a family event.

Hats off to Northwest Bay once again for a successful two-day tournament of bass and walleye catching. The kitchen staff is greatly appreciated, a delicious meal of lasagna and all the fixings were enjoyed by the anglers. As well as a thank you to the men that bring the fish back and forth safely to have them weighed and put back in Rainy Lake.

Plus all the perks enjoyed by all, right down to the “shackle box”

An evening of delicious home cooked food and socializing was enjoyed by approximately one hundred and seventy people at the Guthrie United Church Harvest Supper. Faces from the entire district attend and this is always a thoroughly enjoyed event.

The preparing of the food started Friday morning with many a good soul showing up at the Devlin Hall to peel, chop, prepare dressing and graciously accept donations that were dropped off.

This is the Church’s main fundraiser for the year.

The Congregation from Guthrie Church would like to thank all who worked serving and in the kitchen and the many appreciated donations. The organizers feel “ blessed” for our generous community.

Congratulations to Carly Pruys and Daniel Miller on the marriage September 24. The couple were wed at the United Church in Fort Frances followed by a reception at the Devlin Hall.

Proud parents are Stephanie Piotriwski and Karl Willemson and Lucy and Willie Miller.

The district wishes you all the best in your marriage.

The next Country Jam is October 21 as is Beer and Burgers. Both these events take place at the Emo Legion. Come out enjoy a meal and dance the night away with some good old country music.
