Lincoln Dunn bids farewell to Times

Lincoln Dunn, long-time resident of the Rainy River District and also long time employee of the Fort Frances Times, bid farewell last Friday (January 24). His connection to the Times is what I’ll definitely miss, as will other employees of the Times. Lincoln had been the general manager for five years but his career at the paper was over a 27 year period. He left and came back. Sue Bragg (employee at Times) laughed as she said, both her and Lincoln considered themselves “double timers at the Times.”

Lincoln was always available when I needed him, his door always open as I barged through the office many times like I owned the place. He was always there for support both professionally and personally when life was a hard road for me to handle. Lincoln has moved to Kenora, where he has spent a lot of time since Frances (his wife) moved there. The couple will now have a happy and content life they have waited for. Lincoln will be starting a new career path in Kenora. I along with the Fort Frances Times staff wish Lincoln all the best in his new endeavour. I’m grateful for our times spent together at the Times and whenever our paths crossed outside of the paper and hopefully they will cross again.

(L-R) Greg Wilson, George Oltsher and Ken Wilson taking a treasured moment for a photo. Many years of fast pitch, sweat and many winning July 1st. tournament we’re won by these 3 along with the rest of the Blue Knights playing at that time. This picture was taken July 1, 2024. – Submitted photo

Sincere condolences and prayers to the family and many friends of Greg Wilson. Greg passed on January 24 unexpectedly after a long and lengthy hospital stay. Greg leaves many feeling an emotional loss. Whatever Greg did he did to the upmost of his ability. Many will remember him as a teacher, fast pitch player with the Blue Knights, a longtime friend, and mentor. But where Greg really shone was as a son, father, brother, uncle and great uncle, plus any other family role he was part of. Greg attended every July 1st celebration. Even after retiring, he would make the trip. Always cheering on the parade, all the organizers of the day and most importantly the Blue Knights playing on The Oltsher Field. Greg played pitcher for the Blue Knights along with his brother Ken who was back catcher for many years. They were a mighty duo not be be reckoned with. The Oltsher Field was a part of their life that developed them into the amazing players they became.

Greg kept in touch with family often, and truly cared how they were doing, especially in their sports events. Greg was fortunate to be raised by Cec and Shirley Wilson and they instilled in him life matters, relationships matter and leaving this earth a better place because you were part of it matters. And that he definitely did.

Our community sends wishes for a full recovery to Glen Aveyard. Glen was hospitalized last Sunday after an accident in his home. The entire community is hoping to see him out and about soon.
