LaVallee election sees changes

The election held last Monday, October 24. saw many changes to the LaVallee Council. Newly elected Lucille MacDonald was elected Reeve.

Elaine Hughes was the only council member re-elected with the three new council members being Ken Badiuk, Stephen Loshaw, and Brendan Hyatt.

Congratulations to all that make up our LaVallee council. MacDonald shared with me, the Council will be sworn in December 7. with the first council meeting being December 14.

MacDonald would like to thanks everyone that cotes for her she is excited about the newly elected council, and is looking forward to working with them plus the staff as well as the district municipal association.

She has been busying herself with studying rules and procedures and best practices. MacDonald is looking forward to hearing what members of the council works like to achieve during their and as always she looks forward to talking with residents.

Remembrance Day services on November 11th. are as follows:

  • Church service at the Emo Legion at 10 a.m.
  • Emo Cenotaph 11a.m.
  • Barwick Cenotaph 1:30 p.m.
  • Stratton 2 p.m.
  • Rainy River First Nations, Manitou 2:45 p.m.

There will be an Emo Legion free will lunch at 12:30 p.m.

The annual Remembrance Day Supper is at 5p.m. The cost is adults $18 and 12 and under $10. 

Show your support by attending a Cenotaph Service or an event at the Legion. To show appreciation for the people that have fought for our Country, allowing us to live in a country like Canada. 

Sincere sympathy to the family of Randy Mctavish, Randy recently passed away unexpectedly in Manitoba. He will be always be greatly remembered for his friendliness, excellent customer service and “just a good man and soul” Sending sincere sympathy to his family and many friends. Gone but not to be forgotten.

Sincere sympathy to Doug and Solly McBride and their family in the passing of Doug’s mother, Nettie McBride. Sympathy also to the friends of Nettie. Thinking g if you at this sad time.

Sending get well wishes to Murray Bragg. Murray recently suffered a stroke. He is home now and here’s hoping for a full recovery.

Get well wishes to Paul Jewiss on recovery of his recent knee surgery.

Happy to report that Carol Hyatt is home and recovering daily. Carol set a few major set backs after her recent surgery. Here’s hoping and praying you will continue with a full recovery.

Guthrie United Church will have a remembrance service, Sunday November 13. at 9:45 a.m.

The Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary Tea and Bake Sale held October 21 was well attended. The Auxiliary raised $1840.00. The door prize was won by Lillian Haugh. She took home a beautiful wooden bowl made by Bill Pope. The Auxiliary would like to thank all folks that came out, purchased goods and it was very nice to see all enjoying a wonderful day.

A happy 85th. birthday to Betty Kuitunen on November 8. Betty was honoured with a birthday party , well attended by family and friends earlier this month. Betty also enjoyed a family meal and celebrations. Betty is enjoying life and plans on continuing to life life to its fullest. The district sends you all the best.

A meet and greet baby shower was held for Emerson Galusha Sunday ( October 30 th). at the home of Grandma and Grandpa Galusha’s.

Julie Lutz has recently moved from her home of over fifty five years in Burriss. Julie has moved to Fort Frances, she will miss her county home where she raised her four children, also miss her many antiques she so fondly collected. Our community wishes her all the best. May you enjoy your new home as much as your previous one.

The next Country Jam at the Emo Legion is November 18. 

Cribbage is played every Wednesday night at the Emo Legion.
