Guthrie United Church hosting Easter Tea and Bake Sale

The Guthrie United Church is hosting an Easter Tea and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 12, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. at the Devlin Hall. This always lovely afternoon will serve desserts, coffee and tea. There will be both a penny and bake table. Donations of baking and penny table items greatly appreciated. Draws begin at 3 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults, 6-12 years old $3 and 5 and under are free. Call Charlene at 276-8841 or Trudy at 275-0420 for more information.

The Sunset Country Métis Council invites you to their Spring Feast taking place at the Métis Hall on Friday, April 4. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with dinner followed by entertainment provided by Manitoba by Métis trio featuring Brandi Vezina. Tickets are $10.00 each and are available at Fort Frances General Supply, Stratton Country Corner Cafe and Rainy River Bakery. Kids under 12 are free.

AG Day takes place April 5 at the Chapple Rec Centre in Barwick from 8:30 – 4 p.m. Luncheon is available for $10.00. Keynote Speakers this year are:

Keynote presentations take place in the Upper Hall.

There will be Crop and Soil Meeting on April 7. This is a beef and an information meeting with guest speaker James Byrne presenting information on cattle performance and pasture quality. The meeting will be held at Emo Feeds starting at 7 p.m.

“Lenten Lunches” continue every Wednesday until April 9 at the Knox United Church in Emo. Come out for a short worship service, followed by a soup and sandwich lunch for $5.00. Money gathered goes to support the United Church mission and service.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eugene Beaucage. Eugene passed unexpectedly on March 12. Eugene lived with his wife Debra McTavish and his children and grandchildren and families in Winnipeg. Eugene had many family members living in the Rainy River District. His funeral is Saturday, March 29, in Winnipeg. Our community is thinking of all those saddened by this sudden loss.

Last Friday’s March 21 Beer and Burger hosted by the Emo Legion saw Ed Rose and Glenda Belluz win the meat draws. Meat packages made available from The Place Fine Foods.

The next Beer and Burger is Friday, April 4.

The Emo Legion will host a Cornhole Tournament this Friday, March 28. Spaces are filled but spectators are welcome to come and watch. The canteen and bar open at 6 p.m. This is always a great evening for all attending.

There will be a Senior’s Bingo this Thursday, March 27, starting at 1 p.m. at the Devlin Hall. Cards are $20 for 20 games.

There will be a Senior’s Coffee Gathering on April 1 and April 15 from 1-3 p.m.

As of April 1, the second grant has been approved for LaVallee Senior’s Centre. This is a “New Horizons for Seniors Program grant. This grant program promotes expanding awareness of social inclusion and participation of Seniors, volunteerism among Seniors and other generations and engages Seniors through the mentoring of others.

The Coffee Gathering on April 15th. will have a presentation from Norma Reather, Geriatric Mental Health worker, and Laura Wilson Palliative Care Clinical Coach, from the agency Giishkaandago’Ikwe. The topic presented will be on Advanced Planning and Palliative Care. The Senior’s Committee is in the planning stages of a speaker in both May and June.

Donna O’Sullivan and her team of paramedics will also be at the coffee gathering on April 15, taking blood pressure and other vital signs. This team of positive, friendly people always add to the success of the afternoon.
