Emo Walleye Classic once again a huge success

The 25th annual Emo Walleye Classic was once again a huge success. The 44 teams that competed had two competitive days of fishing. When the final weigh-ins were completed, first place was Jack and Cody Drennan, second place Doug McBride and Steve Ballan, and third place went to Jon and TJ Barker.

The biggest fish netted was 9.07 pounds, winning Jack and Cody Drennan $780.00.

This years Rookie Award went to team #33 Rob Turner and Amanda Barnard, who finished 17th overall.

Colleen Vennechenko was honoured for her 25th year of being a committee member. Earlier in the day Colleen had reminisced about the good old days 25 years ago with committee members Nevin Bonot and Sam Visser. Memories made and never forgotten.

The committee members would like to thank anglers, sponsors, and volunteers for a successful event, the community support was once again overwhelming.

The Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary will host a Strawberry Social on June 12, at the Emo Hospital. The social takes place from 1:30-3 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. The Auxiliary thanks the district for all the support.

The Women’s Institute Museum is hiring. There are openings for one full-time and one part-time positions. The job runs from July to August and is open to people 15 to 99 years of age. The Women’s Institute Museum also would like volunteers, if you can bake a pie and serve at their upcoming pie social, create displays, show off a talent or do some fix-it repairs an hour or two, would be greatly welcomed. Mark your calendar the annual Pie Social for the Musrem on July 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The Musem’s opening date for 2026 is July 2. The Emo Legion will host their popular Beer and Burger and meat draw this Friday, May 29. Beer and Burger will be served in the hall this Friday due to on going renovations in the Legion’s kitchen. Country Jam will follow Beer and Burger featuring THE WEBB.

Alberton will host a Garage Sale and Vendor Market this Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. This is an open-air market for all tastes and budgets. This event takes place at the Millennium Park, 168 Hill Road. You can sell your treasures from the trunk of your car or register for a 10×10 space for $10.

Sincere sympathy to the family, St. Patrick’s Church family and the many friends of Neal Grant. Neal is proof that a good man touches the lives of many. This hardworking man always made time for his family, church, his co-workers, Golden Age Manner friends and most recently his community of friends he made at his most recent home in Winnipeg. Neal’s smiles, kindness and knowledge will always be remembered by the many lives he touched. May those struggling with his passing know you are in many peoples prayers and thoughts at this sad time.

Sympathy and caring thoughts to the family and friends of Ken(Bud) Larson. Ken will be sadly missed by all that knew him. May all those grieving his passing take comfort knowing the district has you in their prayers and thoughts at this sad time.
