Emo senior of the year is announced

The 2021 Senior Of The Year was announced Monday, January 24. This year’s well deserved recipient is Gayle Hyatt.

Gayle was completely shocked when she was honoured with this award.

Due to Covid restrictions the presenting of the award was given outside the Emo Municipality office.

Mayor Harold McQuaker was more than honoured to present this award to Gayle.

Gayle volunteers numerous hours at the Emo Legion. She’s often seen at carpet bowling, preparing lunch for seniors. She has served and did kitchen prep for many, many suppers such as funeral luncheons, Remembrance Day Services and Christmas suppers. You name it, she’s there. Gayle is a familiar face at Friday Night “Beer and Burger”.

Gayle also is a member of the Emo Fair Board and it’s common to see her judging floats during the fair.

Gayle has volunteered for the Emo Walleye Tournament for many years and will continue to do so once it’s up and running again.

Gayle volunteered at the Emo Mission House for fifteen years, has worked in the canteen during hockey tournaments and there’s no doubt when Gayle is asked if she can help out her answer will be “yes.”

The district congratulates Gayle on this well deserved award!

May you continue to enjoy your son, eleven grandkids and all the special people in your life.

In other District news, happy 40 birthday to Jamie Booth. Jamie reached this milestone January 20.

Longtime volunteer Gayle Hyatt recently accepted the award for Emo Senior of the year, from Emo Mayor Harold McQuaker. Hyatt is a regular fixture at almost every volunteer function in the community, from the Emo Legion, to the Emo Fair Board.
