Congratulations and thanks are in order

Congratulations to Kathryn Pierroz and Mike Cuzzolino on the birth of their first child. Daniel was born November 29.

Proud grandparents are Dr. Dan Pierroz and Anna and Dan and Dan and Ann Cuzzolino from Sault St Marie.

Kathryn and Mike purchased the former Don Murray home and have spent the last two years clearing trails, cleaning brush and removing problem trees as well as planting 80 new trees.

They are looking forward to building their new home on the property. Sadly Covid has set them back on building, but hopefully soon they can get started on their home. Kathryn is an elected Public School Board Trustee and it was shared with me from Val McLeod that Kathryn is the first municipal elected Trustee to have a baby while in office for our District.

Val also pointed out that Kathryn and Daniel were present at a school board meeting only a few days after his birth.

I’ve also learned from Momma Pierroz that Daniel has been present at seven board or committee meetings for a variety of boards and also baby Daniel was present at his first Ontario Public School Board meeting January 10, at just seven and a half weeks old. Kathryn is also Riverside Health Care Communication Coordinator.

Mike, baby Daniel’s Dad, is a school teacher, presently working at Robert Moore school.

He is really enjoying his time at Robert Moore this year with both the staff and students. However he does miss Crossroads School, where he had previously taught. Mike was deemed surplus at Crossroads and he chose Robert Moore as his next home. Mike would be pleased to get back to Crossroads; both Kathryn and Mike have high praised for the school. Val McLeod also shared with me that her grandson misses Mr. Cuzzolino immensely at Crossroads.

Crossroads was one of the families’ first excursions. Mom, Dad and Daniel went to pick up their Little Caesars fund raiser order. They took baby for a quick visit.

Although this might be baby’s first time at the school, it certainly won’t me his last, as Kathryn and Mike both plan on Daniel starting J.K. at this school.

Kathryn feels very lucky to have Crossroads in her constituency and she’s very much missed being able to take in all the events and sports since Covid.

Although Kathryn is enjoying mothering “to its fullest” she does miss her time at the hospital, particularly as the hospital has moved into another Covid wave and programming success coming from Riverside.

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Kathryn and Mike and their son to our community.

Kathryn mentioned to me she is learning more about our Devlin/LaVallee community and her little family look forward to being Devlin people.

We are fortunate (as a community) to have both Kathryn and Mike and their enthusiasm and dedication for all they do in both education and our local hospital.

A late but well deserved thank you to the Emo Knox United Church volunteers and congregation that prepared and distributed 125 take out meals on Christmas Eve.

The meal included a full traditional menu along with treats. The demand for the dinners was overwhelming again this year.

This successful community event was made possible by the generous donations received from New Gold Rainy River as well as the support from the Emo Mission House. All personal donations, drivers who delivered and volunteers who assembled the meals are very much appreciated too. They really know how to show the love of Christmas!

I regret for not mentioning in my last weeks column regarding Dorothy Taylor’s hundredth birthday on Jan 13, that Dorothy and Charlie lived several years in Burriss. Charlie planted spruce trees. Many still stand today, located where the haunted forest is at Halloween. Anderchuck’s had that farm for many years.

Roy Taylor remembers many fun times playing in the river and bridge.

He would walk to the Burriss Store with ten cents and buy a bag of chips.

Oh the many memories Dorothy and her family have of the good old Burriss days.

Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Ed Gellately. He will be sadly missed by many.

Also sympathy to the family and friends of Brad Carlson. A kind man always a smile. He will be greatly missed.

Our community sends thoughts and prayers to both families grieving at this sad time.

Robin’s 2 cents.

Wife: “You left the seat up!

Did you hear me just fall in?”

Husband: “Yep, came to flush.”
