Due to the weatherman’s misbehaviour last week, the Emo hospital auxiliary’s annual “Strawberry Social” has been rescheduled for this coming Friday (June 21) from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the hospital cafeteria.
Admission is $2, and there will be a door prize draw.
Also with the inclement weather conditions last week, two funeral services had to be cancelled and rescheduled.
The funeral for Kathleen Leek’s mother, Lilly Boldero, was held last Thursday at the Stratton United Church while David Barker’s funeral was held Friday morning at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
Our prayers and sympathies are extended to these families.
Our sympathies also are extended to Lincoln Dunn and Frances Flook on the loss of their baby.
My wife and I know what you’re going through as we lost a great-granddaughter last October. She was only with us for one mere week before the Lord figured there was a better place for her.

Cribbage winners at the Emo Legion last Wednesday (June 12) were Loraine and Gerald Bullied (high), with consolations to Holly Thompson and Kay Bragg.
Holly also won the door prize.
Julia Leek, who was home for the funeral services of her two grandmothers last week, is a student at the University of Manitoba, where she is enrolled in a four-year program.
For the summer, she is employed at the Kenaston Canadian Tire.
“We remember David Barker as a father, grandfather, and friend, a builder, mover, and carpenter,” remarked Pastor Jeff Plett during the well-attended funeral service last Friday morning at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
Pastor Plett gave the opening remarks and prayer while pianist Elaine Kiddle led the congregation, directed by Laural Ann Plett, in several hymns.
David Hepburn had the scripture reading taken from 1 Corinthians 15:35-38 while David Barker’s brother, Delbert, gave the eulogy, reflecting on his brother’s life, which at times was amusing and humorous.
Special music was provided by Gary Smith, Martha Gerber, and Mary Keesic.
Bill Bridal, former pastor at Calvary Tabernacle, was unable to attend due to the inclement weather.
After the service, everyone gathered in the fellowship hall for refreshments and to meet with the family. The ladies of CRC catered to the audience.
After the morning worship service at the CRC on Sunday, we shared in the 55th wedding anniversary for Charlie and Rita Byma in the fellowship hall.
Two large decorated cakes centred the main table, and everyone on hand had a piece of cake with ice cream and refreshments.
May the Lord continue to bless you with many more joy-filled years together.
Albert and Carolyn Strydhorst and family (Jessica, Andrea, and Kristin), who are missionaries to Nigeria, were welcomed to both Sunday services at the CRC.
The couple are guests of her parents, Henry and Thea Kaemingh, at Devlin. This coming week, the couple will be at Wayne and Wilma Kooistra’s (Tuesday) and then at Archie and Eleanor Wiersema’s in Rainy River.
At both locations, congregation members will meet them personally and have the opportunity to hear about the work they have committed themselves to in Nigeria.
Calvary Tabernacle is planning a worship evening, and producing a live worship CD, this Saturday (June 22) at the Townshend Theatre in Fort Frances.

Fifty years have gone by since my wife Adelia and I were married, and we have a lot of memories to reflect upon.
This past Friday (June 14), we received numerous best wishes for many more years of good health. We say thanks to friends and relatives for the cards, flowers, and phone calls, and to our daughter, Ann Michl, and family for the anniversary/Father’s Day supper at the Emo Inn on Sunday evening (total of 10 attended).
Since most of our family could not be here, we have set Aug. 14 for the anniversary celebration (which will fall during the annual Emo fair). We anticipate it will be a pleasant weekend.
