Rangers visit fire attack base

From the Stewardship Youth Rangers

The Stewardship Youth Rangers in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s summer program continue to have a busy and productive summer.

Last week, we visited the ministry’s Aviation Forest Fire Emergency Services’ forward attack base at Vedette Lake, north of Fort Frances.

We learned about the training and fitness testing requirements for the FireRangers.

We also learned about the equipment used by FireRangers—and even had the chance to look inside a helicopter used for fire suppression efforts.

Then at Couchiching First Nation, we helped to clear the Maple Harvest Trail.

We also visited Seven Bends Honey Farm to learn how bees benefit our ecosystem.

We even had the chance to taste some honey straight from the honeycomb!
