On July 8, 2017, Lion Bill Michl of the Voyageur Lions in Fort Frances began a run around Lake Superior to raise money for the Lions Club International Foundation.
Lion Bill’s goal was to raise awareness and funds for the Foundation, otherwise known as LCIF.
His plan was to run 1234 miles (1985 km) or 2,100,00 steps in just 82 days.
Unfortunately, due to an injury to his legs, Lion Bill’s run was cut short and his goal was not reached, at least in the summer of 2017.
But with the pride of a true Lion and have a period of rest and rehabilitation, Lion Bill is back on the road again.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, he should be running to the finish line on Sunday, June 9,

The Foundation works together with local Lions and Lion leaders, assessing urgent needs and quickly delivers aid to disaster victims.
Lions know that a disaster can affect anyone’s community, whether it’s halfway around the world or right at home.
Recent donations by the Foundation to world disasters include; more than US$118 million for disaster relief programs worldwide, US$6 million for Haiti earthquake relief, US$15 million following South Asia tsunami and US$5 million for Hurricane Katrina projects.
Money even comes back to Northwestern Ontario when needed.
The flood victims in Thunder Bay several years ago received a grant of $10,000 to fix homes and repair other damages to the city.
Lions support many causes but are probably best known for being the first volunteer group on the scene of most world disasters.

The Emo and District Lions second annual PetValu Dog Walk for Dog Guides of Canada was deemed a huge success by the organizers of the event. Thanks goes out to all the walkers, workers, dogs and those who donated so generously to this worthy cause.
Together everyone tripled the money raised last year.
For over 34 years, the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides has been a vital national fundraiser in support of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. Taking place in approximately 300 communities across Canada, the Walk raises funds to provide life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians with physical and medical disabilities at no cost to them.
Providing specially trained Dog Guides through seven distinct programs meeting a wide range of needs, Dog Guides increase the independence, mobility, and safety of their handlers.
