Last cattle sale this weekend

November has arrived and it sounds like we are in for some decent weather. Although we will all welcome some nice warm, sunny days, it will most likely make quite a mess on the roads and in the barn yard.
Things have frozen up nicely in most places and it makes for tidy animals, clean rubber boots and less dog tracks across the floor. Thank goodness we didn’t get much snow with those winds on Saturday or I think we would still be shovelling ourselves out. I spent a good part of the day feeding up all my animals. Then I rushed around to be in the house early for the trick or treaters. As well, I wanted to get Roxee and Black Bettie dressed up in their costumes. We had eight little visitors! Roxee loves the kids and is proud to dress up. Bettie was hot, but she cooperated quite nicely! I had a bigger list of jobs to complete on Sunday. The new heifers needed to be vaccinated, tagged and dewormed and put out with the rest of the replacement heifers. The sheep, goats and alpaca needed to be dewormed and vaccinated and breeding time for these guys are just a couple weeks away. The last of the lambs are heading to the abattoir this week. I purchased a new brush scratcher for the cows that needed to be mounted. I am excited about it. They have few places to rub when they get locked in for calving so they will appreciate this and as well in the summer we can put fly spray through it. I am excited to see them try it out. We’ve also had a small bit of fence to fix. When I was gathering up all the bale rings I was coming through the gate and took down the electric wire that was overhead. So sometimes I create more work, but either way it had to be fixed up. I also gathered up all my fall decorations and am excited to start thinking about Christmas decorations – my favourite!
This is our last Cattle Sale week for 2020! In a million years I would have never thought we would have had such a strange year. We are normally inviting people to join us and this year we are asking everyone to stay away. Either way, we are looking towards another successful sale this Saturday. If you have cattle to bring or you are interested in working, please get in touch with James at 271-2005.
Next Thursday November 12, we are hosting our Rainy River Regional Abattoir Annual Meeting at the Emo Legion. The Emo Legion will be set up with COVID safety in mind. Please bring /wear a mask. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. It would be a great time for you to come out and see how things are going with the Abattoir and Rainy River Meats. We are always looking for ways to improve and grow these services so please take time to attend and share your thoughts.
