It is Emo Fair week, and it is very overwhelming! With Aug. 1 falling on a Saturday, it is making our fair week arrive rather quickly!
I am sad that there is no way that I will have enough time to have many entries this year. I enjoy entering a few photos. I even bought a new printer but cheaped out when I was purchasing new toner and decided to go with no-name. It won’t print. I often use my mom’s little photo printer. It won’t print.
I decided to send some photos to Walmart to be printed. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. I might be able to show some cucumbers, but my cauliflower is already done! I killed my tomatoes, and I might have to look and see if my garlic is worth showing.
I stopped baking a few years ago because that just added another level of stress, as I am not a person who is comfortable in the kitchen. I have trained two yearling heifers, but they haven’t had a lot of time on them. They are doing well, but they need to be bathed.
My trailer needs to be cleaned in the worst way. I normally take this week off, but it is too busy for me to do that. I have hay to bale at the Station today, and then I need to rush home to help rake one friend’s hay, and I am hoping to help some other friends with their square bales. I guess things will happen with or without my entries.
We were able to finish our second-cut plots of forages last week and moved right into combing our winter wheat. We had a few minor issues, but for the most part it went well, and the yields seem to be good. Stay tuned for that.
We then tackled the harvest on the annual forage plots: sorghum, corn, millet and a triticale mix. The yields were impressive, and we will be feed testing them, so it will be great to share that information with you. I am very thankful to the Nussbaumer family for coming in and baling those plots off. They would not dry fast enough for us to get them baled!
I hope to see you all at the Emo Fair. This is such a busy time for our 4-H members who are working hard to have their cattle and other entries ready for you all to come visit! Please take time to check out their animals and come to the show and steer auction! We only ask that you stay out of the barn during the cattle show, as it gets busy with moving animals, and honestly, it is a bit dangerous for all of us!
Be sure to visit our 4-H food booth! We will once again be frying up some local potatoes, and of course our burgers will be from Petermann Meats and Sunrise Meats! This food booth is how 4-H makes its income for the entire year, so we look forward to seeing you!
