Strong support for the abattoir and important community conversations

Wow! The Friends of the Abattoir fundraiser was a huge success. I am so proud of the community for coming together and making this event very successful. The feedback about the evening was very positive, and the committee deserves a HUGE pat on the back. The meal was outstanding, and it is great that they served all food that was grown right here in the Rainy River District. Looking forward to next year!

Rainy River Federation of Agriculture hosted a very informative night last week as well, with special guests Jon and Kelly from MNP in Fort Frances. Jon and Kelly had some very worthwhile information on Farming and Tax Laws. The bottom line is that everyone’s situation is different and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for everyone.

Take the time to meet with someone like Jon or Kelly and talk over your situation. There are some special provisions that exist for farms, and people like this are trained to point you in the right direction. I found out that I must hurry up and have kids because transferring things to your nieces is not in the guidelines.

I should not joke about this because it is a very real and serious situation that we tend to ignore, but those are costly choices. Thank you to RRFA for hosting a great night and choosing a topic that matters to all of us.

Last week, Ontario Health hosted Town Hall meetings throughout the district, and I understand that the Emo meeting was poorly attended. That is unfortunate. I had good intentions of going, but with good weather I didn’t want to take time off work. You still can have input into this matter by completing the survey at rrdoht.ca/healthcarematters. Please log in and do this. We continually hear complaints and suggestions about health care, and this is your time to speak up!

Aaron Bujold and Rustin Chartier are off to Manitoba Ag Ex in Brandon once again. I am very excited and proud of them both. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it to cheer in person this year. I will be cheering online!

If you would like to watch Aaron and Rustin online, just search DLMS and then look for the link for Manitoba Ag Ex. Aaron will be at the Hereford Show and Rustin in Charolais, and they both show at 1 p.m. on Friday. A great time to tune in will be 6 p.m. Friday because that is when the Supreme show is! The top animals from all divisions compete for overall, and it is very exciting!

I am still struggling to get caught up but haven’t been feeling great either. I am blaming it on the short days and not sleeping well because I cracked my ribs—AGAIN. I think I need to just take one day and catch up on bookwork, and that will also make me feel better. Right?
