RRFA hosts another successful ‘Ag Day’

The Rainy River Federation of Agriculture once again hosted a successful “Ag Day” on Saturday at the Emo Legion!
It’s a tough time of the year to get everyone out, with winter hitting us quickly and many jobs still left to do. But there was a great agenda and for those who took the time to come out, I’m sure you would not have been disappointed.
Ang Halverson went away with the grand prize of a day’s fly-in fishing trip or a flyover of the district! Lucky day for her.
I think other topics were noted for the spring event, so it is looking to be a day you won’t want to miss!
Thanks to those who organized, attended, and set up something in the trade show!
I wish the new board of the RRFA a successful year ahead and I am very proud of what they accomplished this past year.

I am very pleased that I was able to get my cows in and vaccinated/de-wormed. Big job off the list.
This past week, we had Blackhawk Simmentals over with one of its machines to clean out our shed so before we were started with cattle, we had to get panels put back in place.
It is difficult with such wintery conditions but it went pretty well. I cannot say enough good about the work that Luke (Blackhawk Simmentals) does! He has things cleaned out before we would have time to unload a rented machine.
It used to take us a good day to get the shed cleaned out.
I still have to get bulls in for vaccinating/de-worming but we just didn’t have enough time on the weekend. As well, the sheep need to be done and we will start breeding.
I have been putting this off because we decided to sell a few sheep but we might have to tackle it anyway. Although we still have six lambs left, they are all sold and should be gone before Christmas.
Alas, weekends just don’t seem to be long enough.

Kathy Kaemingh was the lucky winner of our “Catch the Ace” draw on Friday night (she chose envelope # 41, which contained the seven of hearts).
She is the third person to win two times!
We are back at the Emo Legion for this Friday’s draw so be sure to get your tickets today! The progressive pot will be around $2,600 this week.
The following weekend is “Holly Days” is Emo so you can watch for us at this great event!
You also should consider participating in the annual “Holly Days” parade. It’s a great place to show off your community spirit!
It will take place on Friday, Dec. 1!

The Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op had launched its Emo hub. You now are able to order online and pick up your purchases at Emo Feed.
The hub in Emo will allow members to shop from Emo-area producers.
There still are plans to connect the entire Cloverbelt distribution network but, of course, there are transportation issues to figure out.
The website is http://cloverbeltlocalfoodcoop.com or get in touch with our area contact, Anita, at clfc.rainyriverdistrict@gmail.com
