Hard to believe it is the Emo Fair Week and it’s the 125th Emo Fair! How exciting. I know for many, that may not have the connection to the Fair, it probably doesn’t seem like it is a big deal. It is a big deal! This is an Agriculture Fall Fair and it is place for many to gather and show off some of their hard work. It isn’t just about the cattle (thought I might be a bit partial!) It is a time to show off your garden, your handicrafts, your photographs and most importantly a time to visit and catch up on a very busy summer. For 125 years now, people have volunteered to make this event happen and without participation it would have folded years ago instead it continues to get stronger! I encourage you to come out and see what others are showcasing and better yet plan to participate in the coming years if you don’t have the time this year. It is even more exciting when you enter an exhibit and wait to see the judges’ choices. The only downfall for the Fair is that is usually a sign that summer is coming to an end and that makes me sad. Fall will fill the air and the students will be heading back to school.
The Riverside Foundation Board are planning to set up at the Emo Fair this year. Our dear Delaine has never been to an Emo Fair so I am so excited that she will be there supporting Health Care and experiencing her first fair! Stop in and visit with the board members, they would love to hear from you!
I am off this week (mostly) to prepare for the Fair. I like to participate in the Exhibition Hall as well as taking cattle. I don’t have too many entries but try to craft a bit or put some pictures together so that I feel like I am a part of it. I am only taking three animals this year and I was feeling guilty about it but over the weekend I really quite enjoyed only having three to bath and prepare. I know I say this every year, but it is a lot of work getting cattle ready. It doesn’t happen overnight. This year with such a difficult, long haying season, it has made it much more challenging. The 4-H kids have been working hard and have some struggles ahead with the partial closure of one of the processors. There is a temporary solution to help with the 4-H steers so we hope to see you all at the auction on Saturday night at 4 p.m. Reminder – anyone can purchase a steer and you can join in with a group of people to purchase, you will not be disappointed with the quality of meat!
Tori and Aynsley are taking care of the Station this week. They have a long list of jobs and have banked enough time to take some time off to enjoy the Fair! We hope to see you all there!
