Happy New Year to everyone!
It looks like we are starting it off with snow. I do recall someone telling me that the Farmer’s Almanac was calling for a “real old-fashioned winter” (i.e., lots of snow and some cold days).
I guess the snow will make all the snowmobilers, skiers, and snowshoers happy! But I get tired of cleaning off the deck while my dad will spend hours and hours pushing around in our driveways.
I’ve always found that to be a waste of time and fuel but it needs to be done.
I realize it is difficult in town, as well, when the plow goes through and fills in your driveway. Guess it is one of the joys of living where we do.
Meanwhile, everyone likely has had time to try out their new Christmas gadgets. I took the time to try out this new gadget I received: a “Soda Stream!”
I’m not a water drinker but this is “water made exciting.” I set it all up and thought I had everything in place to give it a whirl. Gave it the start push and promptly flooded my kitchen (at least it was just with water).
I guess I didn’t have the bottle in the correct position.
I cleaned up the mess and re-positioned the bottle–and successfully carbonated some water. The next step was to add some flavour.
I read how much to add but didn’t continue to read that you should add it very slowly. So I dumped it in and re-flooded the kitchen–this time with orange flavouring.
Like I’ve said many time before: we go out of way to get the house all dialed in for the holidays but it is only to make big messes like this. Needless to say, I gave up on the “Soda Stream” for the day.
The next morning, I thought I would start fresh and make another bottle. Since I was taught a few lessons the day before, things went quite well (but even still I did everything over the sink).
Marlee had bought me a new water bottle and was excited at how cold it will keep drinks. So I thought that I would put my new batch of water in it.
I was working in my office and decided I’d better go and sample my drink. I pulled in out of the fridge, turned to walk towards the office, and opened the lid—and the carbonated drink gushed across the entire kitchen and living room, and even was spilling down the living room window.
Although I wanted to toss the entire thing out the window, I did the right thing and just cleaned it all up. But I will take a few days before I make “water exciting” again.
Exciting it is.

It now seems like Christmas was a month ago already, but many still have this week off. I’m excited to have some girlfriends from town coming out for our annual visit, but looks like after that I will have to get back to work with a new list to tackle.
