Local food co-op makes pitch

The Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op was here presenting how it could allow all of us to access more local food and even other items.
I hope some of you were able to attend one of their sessions. If not, it works like this: items that are for sale are listed on the website and you can order for a specific period of time and then a pick-up on a specific date and time.
We are hoping to include Emo and Fort Frances in this (currently they have these hubs in Dryden, Sioux Lookout, and Kenora). We think it could fill the void of losing our farmers’ market.
It is not only food that’s listed but also homemade items and crafts (we even sold some trees earlier this year).
Be sure to check out www.cloverbeltlocalfoodcoop.com to get an idea of how it works. Rainy River Meats currently is selling products through them and they feel it works quite nicely.
Cloverbelt also has put together a really great website hosting a map of local food producers.
You can take a look at that, as well, if you visit their website and click on “meet your local producers!”
If you would like more information on that, I would be happy to explain it to you or contact Cloverbelt.
We hope we will have a food hub in Emo and Fort Frances by the end of the year.

Just a quick reminder that you don’t want to miss attending the Rainy River Federation of Agriculture’s annual meeting this Saturday night!
Darryl Martindale will be speaking on behalf of New Gold.
Happy hour starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Emo Legion. You can get your tickets from any RRFA director or call Bernie Zimmerman at 487-1278.

As well, this is your last chance to register for our Steve Kenyon Pasture School that will happen here Nov. 7-9. We are very fortunate to have this talent in our district and at a very reduced fee because of the sponsors.
If you would like to be in attendance, call me A.S.A.P. as we are very close to being full (but I would do my magic to get you in if you are interested).
