In true RRCA AGM fashion our winter returned. We have often found that one of the coldest nights of the year was when we hosted our AGM. We would all gather, usually in Stratton and would all welcome another coffee or fresh doughnut at the end of the night because our vehicles were so darn stiff from sitting through our meeting. We tricked Mother Nature some, as we held or AGM virtually. I couldn’t help but think about our ancestors; in a million years they wouldn’t have imagined meeting this way. We went the extra mile to be sure we had things planned out. We even had some elections! We even had a tie, so we had to run our voting polls a few more times. In the end, we were successful, and we have a new RRCA Board for 2021. We will meet again this week, virtually to select our executive. The board has their work cut out for themselves with our new barn build. I also remind myself that our barn was built by community members and we will do it again! Just a quick reminder that Rainy River Cattlemen’s has both a Facebook page and a website if you are ever looking for information.
I have a cow that is causing me some concern. She had a bad sand crack. She seemed to be doing well but I think bringing her home and walking on the hard ground has reopened the issue. I gave her some pour-on pain relief and I am hoping she will feel some better so she can make her way back home by the end of the week. We also have our goat experiencing some feet issues. We thought perhaps arthritis but my Vet. cousin thinks it is just her feet. I have done some trimming on them, but she has suggested a bit more. We all know the pain from a crack in our thumbs or feet, so I do sympathize with both.
Maddie and Marlee did a slide-show presentation to their parents last week in hopes of winning them over and allowing a dog to be a part of their home. This is not the first presentation but they nailed it and they are on a waiting list for a puppy. To say they are excited is an understatement. Marlee spent most of the weekend crafting and designing new clothes, toys, and training plans. The puppy won’t be born until near the end of February, so we have some time to get things in order. I must be honest; I am completely shocked my brother is getting a dog!
Today would have marked my Mom and Dad’s 52 Anniversary. He would have been running to Emo to get her a special card and calling me to see what he could pick up at Tompkins. Curb-side pickup would have challenged him as he would prefer to go in and see the staff and ask for their suggestions.
My sister in law will be celebrating her birthday mid-week! Happy Birthday Char. And many of you know Shanny (Bliss) Jackson; well if you see her on our near Sunday – it is her 50th Birthday!!! Lots of cheers for that one Shanny, hope we can celebrate this sometime in 2021!
