Even the cows want spring

I think even my cows are growing tired of our lack of spring!
For those of us who didn’t have a huge stack of hay this year, the long, lingering winter certainly is not helping that, either.
Alas, the long-term weather forecast still isn’t looking very warm and we are in need of some warm days to attack the big snow piles.
I still have yet to see a glimpse of my plowing here at the Emo Agricultural Research Station!

I’ve moved all the sheep into the barn now with baby lambs next on deck. With their winter coats still attached, they find it pretty hot in the barn but it’s too cold for baby lambs to be born outside.
We are hoping our friend in Thunder Bay will come again this year and shear our sheep.
It was a treat to have someone remove the wool so quick and efficiently.

The Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association is looking for some help at its work bee at the Stratton sales barn set for this Saturday (April 13) beginning at 9 a.m.
Our first sale is scheduled for the following Saturday (April 20), so we need to ensure all things are in working order.
We welcome everyone–there are plenty of tasks. Susie Q will ensure a great lunch, as well.

We finally took the time to go out and celebrate my girlfriend Becky’s 40th birthday on Saturday night. We stayed out much too late but it was fun.
Then on Sunday, we celebrated my brother’s birthday. Happy birthday, Shane!
So there was lots of celebrating over the weekend and not enough working. The income tax form is still waiting for me!
