I finally started to feel better by the end of the week and I moved my cows into the yard. They are due to calve next week but some are starting to show a lot of sign, so it is nice having them close and easy to inspect.
I was lucky to get a load of fines from the Barwick mill for the calving yard and the cows are absolutely loving them.
Thanks so much to Norbord!

I finally think my hydrops cow is coming around. I actually ended up drenching her with some rumen enzymes from another cow in hopes of kick-starting her rumen.
I didn’t have much strength when I was doing it but did get some in her. I then kept her on the camera so I could watch to see if she was chewing her cud.
I finally did on Saturday night so this made me think we were on the right path.
She will never breed again but at least she is coming around.

We are still dog-sitting “Molly” the border collie pup. Fortunately, she has fit in pretty well to our routine, and Maddie and Marlee were excited to get to play with her on Friday since it was a P.D. Day.
She loved the girls and they definitely wore her out.
Marlee ended up staying for the entire weekend since Maddie was in Minneapolis for hockey. Marlee helped get the calving pens ready and clean up the barn.
We decided to bring in a couple of cows and she was pretty proud of herself for helping get them in–and she thinks she might be better at that than grandma.
Of course, Marlee told her that, too.
Meanwhile, “Molly” is here for another week, but it’s likely good she will miss calving since my cows still are not sure they enjoy her company.
