The Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau is again offering Income Tax preparation for low income residents. They will begin accepting forms March 16 at the Volunteer Bureau at 140 Fourth St. West. The 38th Annual Nestor Falls Winter Carnival will take place at the Nestor Falls Community Hall beginning Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8. Come on out for a weekend of fun activities for the entire family, including a fish cook-off, fish derby and “All you can eat” pancake and sausage breakfast.
The Rainy River Figure Skating Club presents “Blades on Broadway” for two shows only; Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for kids 12 and under; kids 4 and under are free.
Registration for the 2020 Youth Soccer season will begin with the first round of registrations on March 10, 11 and 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre. The Fort Frances Public Library will be holding a 55+ Movie Matinee at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13. The library will be showing “A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood” starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, 109 minutes, rated PG.
The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper–featuring a turkey dinner–on Friday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). Admission is $16/plate, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772. Bring a friend!
Guthrie United Church will be holding a Spring Fling tea and bake sale at the Devlin Hall from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st. Desserts, a penny table, a bake table and a cookie walk are planned for the afternoon. Admission is $5 for adults; $2 for ages 6-12; kids under 5 are free.
The Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists will be holding an Owl Identification Workshop from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 at the Fort Frances Public Library. Come out to learn how to identify owl of Northwestern Ontario by their appearance and calls. for more information call 274-2988.
The Rainy River Federation of Agriculture is presenting Ag Day 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at the Chapple Rec Centre in Barwick. Presentations will include soil health, marketing branding, beef specialists and the urban plastic ban. Lunch will be available.
The Fort Frances Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 will be holding a PJs and Pearl’s Gala fundraiser, Saturday April 4. Passes for the Dudley Hewitt Cup taking place from April 29 – May 2 are available for purchase now for $100, which includes admission to all 8 games. The Fort Frances Public Library holds a number of weekly events for kids of all ages:
•Tween Club Tuesdays are held every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. Join us each Tuesday afternoon for fun and informative activities geared for youth.
•Story Time Wednesdays are held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Read, play, and make new friends with parents, caregivers and children. This free program is filled with stories, finger rhymes and songs.
•Baby Time Thursdays are held every Thursday from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Bouncing and tickling rhymes, songs and stories that will make your baby smile.
•Craft Club Saturdays are held every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Drop-in and create some wild and wacky crafts to take home! Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
