The Friends of the Fort Frances Museum will hold its seventh-annual wine-and-cheese fundraiser, this year entitled “Novemberfest,” today (Nov. 1) from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the museum. It also will feature beer, hors d’oeuvres, live music, games, and an auction. Tickets cost $30 in advance (available at the museum) and $35 at the door.
The annual Scott Clendenning Memorial Showcase, hosted by the Muskie girls’ hockey team, will run Nov. 2-3 at the Memorial Sports Centre. Fort High will play the Sioux Lookout Warriors on Friday at 8 p.m. at the ’52 Canadians Arena, then on Saturday will face the Thunder Bay Fury at 10:15 a.m. and the Kenora Broncos at 4:15 p.m. both at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $5/day or $10/weekend for adults, $3/day or $6/weekend for seniors, and $2 for youths aged 13-18 (those under 12 are free). Season passes will be honoured for entry.
The Fort Frances Lakers will host the Minnesota Iron Rangers in SIJHL action on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students, $5 for kids 12 and under, and free for those under five.
The inaugural “Reindeer Run, Walk or Roll” event, hosted by Community Living Fort Frances and District, will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the outdoor track behind Fort Frances High School. There also will be a jingle bell bracelet craft. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
The Rainy River Federation of Agriculture will hold its annual dinner and meeting on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Millennium Hall in Stratton. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:30. A “Vendor Blender,” featuring crafts and homemade items, baked good, and home-based businesses, will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1-5 p.m. at the Nestor Falls Community Hall. Coffee/tea and juice will be available.
The annual Remembrance Day tea, hosted by the local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 from 2-4 p.m. at the local Legion. It will feature baking and candy tables, meat pies, cabbage rolls, and perogies, as well as a cookie walk, “Pick-a-Poppy,” penny table, door prize, and a 50/50 draw. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children under seven.
Fort Frances High School presents its annual musical revue, this year entitled “Shades of Yellow and Sunshine,” on Nov. 8-10 at 7 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. Tickets, which cost $10 for adults or $8 for students/seniors, are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts and at the door.
“Indigenous Veterans of Treaty No. 3,” a new exhibit running through December at the Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre, will open Thursday, Nov. 8 from 5-7 p.m., with opening remarks at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome to attend.
A “Paint Night” fundraiser for Special Olympics will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Copper River Inn. Tickets cost $45 each, with $15 going to support local Special Olympics athletes, a limited number of which are available online at
The Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association will hold its final cattle sale of 2018 on Saturday, Nov. 10 starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Stratton sales barn. CUPE Local 65 will hold its annual retirement dinner/dance on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the local Legion. Cocktails are at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 and the dance to follow.
