Riverside Health Care will hold its next open board meeting today (May 24) at 6 p.m. in the meeting room at the Rainy River Health Centre.
An all-candidates’ meeting, hosted by the Rainy River Federation of Agriculture, will be held today (May 24) at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Way School in Stratton. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Emo Walleye Classic runs today through Saturday (May 24-26), starting with the angler parade tonight starting at 5:30 p.m. Flights then leave at 8 and 8:15 a.m. both Friday and Saturday, with the weigh-ins beginning at 3:30 p.m. both days at the Emo/La Vallee Arena. The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper–featuring pork cutlets–on Friday, May 25 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30 p.m.) A 50/50 draw also will be held. Admission is $16/person.
The fifth-annual “Marzie Days,” a plant and bake sale fundraiser in support of the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre Foundation in Winnipeg, will be held Saturday, May 26 starting at 9 a.m. at the residence of Barb and Alf Redford (1213 Highway 613 North).
The “Friends of the Library” will hold its annual book sale on Saturday, May 26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Donations welcome (drop books off at the library the week prior to the sale). Proceeds to benefit the local library.
The annual “Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides,” organized by the Fort Frances Voyageurs Lions Club, will go Sunday, May 27 starting at noon at the Sorting Gap Marina. Registration gets underway at 11 a.m. Everyone welcome!

To mark Paramedic Services Week, the Rainy River Association of Professional Paramedics and Rainy River District Paramedic Services will hold free barbecues from 4-8 p.m. on May 28 (Atikokan ambulance base), May 29 (Rainy River ambulance base), and May 31 (Emo ambulance base), as well as on Saturday, June 2 from noon-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances ambulance base. There also will be games, prizes, a bake sale, open house, and ambulance tours.
Town council will hold its next regular meeting Monday, May 28 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

The District 1A Senior Games, open to residents aged 55+ as of Dec. 31, 2018, will be held in Fort Frances on June 5-6. Registration forms available at the Fort Frances Senior Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre), with the deadline being May 29. The registration fee is $35, which includes lunch both days and a banquet on the Tuesday night (extra banquet tickets cost $25 each).
The Rainy River District Women’s Shelter of Hope will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. Any interested parties may attend.

“Relay for Life” will be held Saturday, June 23 from 4-10:30 p.m. at the new Rainy Lake Square in downtown Fort Frances. Teams are urged to sing up today by contacting organizer Monica Sus at 274-7043 or by dropping by the “Welcome Home” Fort Frances Family Centre (272 Scott St.) on Monday to Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tea and scones are back every “Market Thursday” from June 28-Aug. 30. Come to the Fort Frances Museum from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (back elevator entrance will be open), with admission being $5.
