A Dudley Hewitt Cup special “action plan” meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Super 8 Motel. One of the first orders of business will be to strike a tournament committee. Past volunteers, new volunteers, and hockey fans all are invited.
The Hunter Education and Canadian Firearms Safety Course will be taught on Sept. 5-8 at the Super 8 Motel here. It will run Thursday and Friday 6-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Course fee is $320 plus HST (includes books and exams). “Tour de Fort” presents Carl Dixon in concert on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre (doors open at 7 p.m.) The show is open to passport-holders but some tickets will be available at the theatre box office on the night of the performance for $35 each. As well, 2019-20 passports will be available for pickup prior to the show starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Fort Frances Lakers will face the Dryden Ice Dogs in exhibition action on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. at Ice for Kids Arena. Admission $12. Season tickets and 400 Club tickets will be available at the game.
The Northwest Catholic District School Board will hold its next monthly meeting on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the finance office in Dryden.
A benefit dinner will be held for Leeann Johnson-Mainville on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 3-6 p.m. at the Couchiching Multi Use Facility. A lasagna dinner–that will be safe for those with celiac disease as well as vegetarians–will be served and there will be a penny table with tons of great prizes. Tickets are $20 per adult, $10 for kids; children under five are free. Tickets available at Northwoods and the Great Bear, from Sandra McNay (276-1293), as well as from some of Johnson-Mainville’s family. Support tickets are also available for $20.
Town council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 4 p.m.
NCDS will hold its annual general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at NCDS (300 Scott St.).
Fort Frances Wado Kai Karate Club will be starting its season on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at J.W. Walker School.
