The Honest Heart Collective will play their brand of passionate, spirited, feel-good, anthemic rock ‘n’ roll at the Rainy Lake Square on this evening (Aug. 8) from 6-8 p.m. Free concert hosted by Tour de Fort. Bring a chair.
“Step Down” will play at the Legion on Friday, Aug. 9 from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. A $5 cover charge for non-members. Attendance prizes. It’s also 50/50 draw night.
The Fort Frances Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 2019 induction banquet on Saturday, Aug. 10 at La Place Rendez-Vous. Tickets now on sale at Taggs Source for Sports for $40 each. Tickets will not be sold at door.
Stock car racing action, including the “Candyman,” goes Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting). Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors, with those nine and under being free.
The Rainy Lake Community Orchestra is holding a “Summer String Camp” for string players of all ages and abilities. Practices will be held at the Ranier Community Building beginning on Sunday, Aug. 11. Registration is not required. The Rainy Lake Sinfonia (youth and less experienced players) will rehearse from 4-5 p.m. each day, Sunday through Thursday. The Rainy Lake Orchestra (adult and advanced students) will practice from 5:30-7 p.m. each day. A free concert will be held on Friday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Ranier Community Building. Town council will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.
The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board’s water levels committee will hold a public meeting on the Rainy and Namakan Lake rule curves on Monday, Aug. 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Rainy River Community College in International Falls.
The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters will make a presentation on the threat of copper mining to Canadian waters on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library.
The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society’s annual fall fair will run Aug. 15-17 at the Emo fairgrounds. See next week’s Times for a schedule of events. The Fort Frances Curling Club will hold a brief membership meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. upstairs at the curling club. Amendments to bylaws will be discussed, followed by a vote.
“Echoes in the Ice: Finding Franklin’s Ship,” the newest exhibit at the Fort Frances Museum, will run through Sept. 22. Admission fees apply: Adults $8, family $24, seniors/children six-12 $6.
