Vacation Bible School “Pioneer Days” will continue this evening (July 25) and tomorrow (July 26) from 6 6-7:30 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church (across from the Alberton Township office). Free admission. Aimed at Grades 1-6. Learn Bible stories, play games, and have snacks.

A come and go tea and mini-flower show will be held on Saturday, July 27 from 1-3 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library to celebrate the Fort Frances Horticultural Society’s 50th anniversary.
A meet and greet with federal Liberal candidates for the Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding will take place on Saturday, July 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Copper River Inn. Free refreshments. Nomination meeting and candidate election will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library (Shaw Room).
Stock car racing action goes Saturday, July 27 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting). Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors, with those nine and under being free.
The next “Open Air Art Studio,” presented by Community Living Fort Frances and District, will be held Monday, July 29 from 3-5:30 p.m. at Point Park. The theme will be the Japanese art of Shibori dyeing. The session is free, and all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
A free Provincial Day of Action BBQ will take place on Tuesday, July 30 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Northwest Community Legal Clinic (206 Scott St.). Burgers, hot dogs, drinks and information on provincial budget cuts.
“Pop Up Play” will take place every Thursday between 10 a.m.-noon this summer until Aug. 22. This event, hosted by the Northwestern Health Unit, Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre and Kidsport, will be at a new location each week. Next Thursday (Aug. 1), it will be at the Sixth Street West Housing Complex. All ages are welcome. Come out and play!
“Rough Cut Pine” will perform at the Rainy Lake Square on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6-8 p.m. Free concert. Bring a chair.
The Halkirk fire protection team will hold its 28th-annual fish fry on Saturday, Aug. 3 from noon-6 p.m. at the Bear Pass fire hall (Bear Pass Road). A bouncy castle will be on hand again this year. Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids (pop and dessert included). There also will be homemade pies for sale. No dogs please!
Celebrate “World Breastfeeding Week” on Thursday, Aug. 8. A special walk with your little ones will start at 11 a.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. The group of parents, family members, grandparents, children and caregivers will then walk to the Rainy Lake Square, meeting there at 11:30. At 11:45, all mothers and babies are invited to join the “Latch Mob” and breastfeed in public. Little kids’ play corner, prizes, and a free lunch. The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board’s water levels committee will hold a public meeting on the Rainy and Namakan Lake rule curves on Monday, Aug. 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Rainy River Community College in International Falls.
The Fort Frances Curling Club will hold a brief membership meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m. upstairs at the curling club. Amendements to bylaws will be discussed, followed by a vote.
“Echoes in the Ice: Finding Franklin’s Ship,” the newest exhibit at the Fort Frances Museum, will run through Sept. 22. Admission fees apply: Adults $8, family $24, seniors/children six-12 $6.
Tea and scones are back every “Market Thursday” from July 4-Aug. 29. Come to the Fort Frances Museum from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (back elevator entrance will be open), with admission being $5. (Cost doesn’t include admission to exhibit.)
