The Fort Frances Chamber Expo will be held May 12-13 at the Fort Frances Curling Club. Admission is free, with dozens of exhibitors to see! Food bank and goodwill donations accepted at the door. Come see local vendors and businesses, and see what’s new and exciting! There will be bouncy castles in the parking lot for kids – $10 per child, with a half hour of bouncing guaranteed. The Expo will be open Friday, May 13 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rockin for a Cause is making a comeback! The LaVerendrye Hospital Auxiliary will be at the Chamber Expo this weekend, with local celebrities rockin’ out in comfy rocking chairs, to raise funds for hospital equipment. Come down an see who’s in the chair and donate to a great cause! Did you know the Times’ very own reporter extraordinaire Ken Kellar will be taking a turn in the rocking chair at Rockin’ for a Cause this weekend!? Pledge a great guy, and support a great cause! The Mill Alumni will hold its 10th annual banquet on Wednesday, May 25 at the Fort Frances legion, starting with a social hour and a half starting at 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased by May 15 and are available at the Senior Centre as well as from Committee members, Al at 486-0360, Allan at 274-9202, Wendell at 274-7318, Herman at 274-9520, Don at 274-9139, Stan at 271-4675, Dave at 274-7086, Keven at 275-8118 or Bill at 274-9648.

A free barbecue will be held Tuesday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rainy Lake Square. Hosted by the Substance Abuse Prevention Team. Personal care packages available to those in need.

The Senior Games are taking place across the region, and the Fort Frances Senior Centre wants you there! Registration is $15, and gives participants access to a wide variety of sports, including billiards, Bowling, euchre and darts. Registration deadline is fast approaching, at may 20, with games running from May 24-June 7. Registration forms are available at the Senior Centre.

Spring workshops at the Museum are back! On May 21 and 22, Jamie Nelson will teach Felting Spring Toads. Cost is $55. Register early – class size is limited!

Ducks Unlimited Fort Frances Committee is bringing back its annual fundraising banquet and charity auction. It’s scheduled for May 13 at La Place Rendez-Vous. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $65, and available at several local venues, including the Fort Frances Times office.

55+ Movie Matinée: Friday, May 20 at 1:00pm at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre. A free showing of “Cyrano” (rated PG-13; 123 min) for ages 55+. Cyrano is the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, who dazzles with both ferocious wordplay and brilliant swordplay, but is convinced that his appearance makes him unworthy of the love of his devoted friend, Roxanne, who has fallen in love at first sight with Christian.

The Friends of the Library are happy to announce the Book Sale is back! Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Books are for sale by donation; cash only. Please bring your own bags. Donations are appreciated! Please drop off the week prior to the sale.

Friends of the Museum is holding its Annual General Meeting, Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at the Fort Frances Museum. Open to the public – new faces welcome!

Ukraine fundraisers

Atikokan Stands with Ukraine is a grassroots organization to raise funds and provide housing for several Ukrainian refugee families. They will be collecting monetary donations, as well as clothes, toys, bikes, and household items for the region’s refugees. Monetary donations over $100 are eligible for a tax receipt.
