The first annual Drill and Chill ice fishing tournament will be held February 19-27, Community events for young and old are being organized for a week of winter fun! The Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce and Fort Frances Library are on board. Other community partners are welcome to join the fun with additional events. The Fort Frances Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 29 are holding a chicken cordon bleu dinner with trimmings on Friday, January 28. Cost is $20 per plate, with a limit of 150 plates available. Knox United Church in Fort Frances has suspended all in-person worship services through Sunday, February 6. Parishioners are welcome to join Schalk Naude and worship online through the Knox Facebook page at business.facebook.com/knoxfortfrances/.

Birch Bark Yarns is (virtually) hosting the 100 day shawl Knit-A-Long! Volunteer opportunities

The Bear Clan Patrol Fort Frances has been deployed to Dryden, to assist in the search for a missing man, 32-year-old Darren Burnard. Search party volunteers are welcome. For meeting times and locations, follow the Bear Clan Patrol Fort Frances on Facebook, connect over Facebook messenger, or call James Eastman at 276-2332. Donations are also welcome. Funds are used for search supplies, to keep search party members warm, fed, and out as long as possible. To donate by e-transfer, use e-mail bearclanpatrol@hotmail.com.

The Seniors Companion Project is looking for volunteers for its friendly phone call program. Take a little time out of your week to alleviate loneliness in a senior – and even yourself! Training and full support are provided. Call Andrea Avis at 271-6370, or e-mail seniorsproject@fortfrances.ca. Seniors looking to receive friendly calls can use the same phone number to sign up.

The Fort Frances Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteer drivers to deliver meals to seniors. To join in, or get more information, call the Riverside Community Support Services at 274-2244.

The Fort Frances Senior Centre is looking for a few volunteers to work on a casual basis covering for someone when they cannot come in. Please call Cindy at 807-271-2021.

Rainy River District Victim Services Program is looking for compassionate and empathetic individuals for our team of volunteers. Our volunteers provide emotional and practical support to victims in their time of need. Individuals in all major centers of the District (Atikokan, Fort Frances and Rainy River) are encouraged to apply.  Free specialized training is included and involves 30 online hours (work at your own pace) and 10 hours of in house certificate training based on Ministry Standards.
