Baseball Manitoba will be holding clinics and registration days in the Rainy River District ages 10-13 event will be held in Fort Frances Aug. 15 12-4 p.m.. ages 6-9 12-2 p.m. and ages 10-13 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Aug. 16 in Emo. Join us for a hands-on baseball clinic focused on skill development and training. On-site registration will also be available for Baseball Maintoba programming and competitive teams for the Rainy River District and Kenora Areas. Join us for the 23rd annual Ride for Memories—a powerful and heartfelt motorcycle ride through Northwestern Ontario, bringing together riders, families, and community members united in the fight against dementia.This annual event raises essential funds for the Alzheimer Society to support local programs and services that benefit individuals living with dementia, their families, and care partners. The Watten Fire Department Fish Fry will happen Aug. 22 at the Watten Township Fire Hall from 3-8 p.m.

The Dagwaagin Colour Run hosted by Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access Centre is taking place Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. with the 1 km starting at 5:30 and the 5 km starting at 6 p.m. Register by Aug. 18 to be guaranteed a free t-shirt and swag bag. Agency One First Nations will be holding a Celebration of Our History and our Lands on Monday sept. 8 from 1-8 p.m. at Point Park in the field near the ball diamond. “Everyone is welcome! Whether you feel connected through community spirit, family, friendship, or shared history, this is a time to come together in celebration, reflection, and renewal.”

Join us in downtown Fort Frances for the first-ever Burger Wars on September 12, 2025 — a community street festival filled with food, fun, and flavour! Featuring local burgers, vendors, music, and more, all in support of the Fort Frances Community Chest.

The 45th annual Terry Fox run this year is being held on Sunday, Sept. 14, the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau is looking for volunteers to help plan the event. Anyone interested in helping can contact Laura at (807) 276-1005 or Laureen at 807-276-8181.

Seniors active living fair takes place at the Fort Frances Senior Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Fire Department and Diabetes Clinic will be giving talks and there will be all kinds of exhibitors with information and give aways.

Local organizations are planning events for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, 2025. They are planning an awareness walk, Pow Wow with Lunch and refreshments. If you are interested in sponsoring this year’s event contact Hailey Olson at 807-274-2042 or holson@fftahs.org.

Tai chi in the Park is back at the Lion’s Park every Wednesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. under the covered gazebo near the fountain. Sessions will run rain or shine throughout the rest of the summer.

The Rainy Lake Readers book club meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:45 at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre. Visit the Library and check out the display of this month’s book selections. New members always welcome. 

Story Time at the Fort Frances Library is held every Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre! Story Time features a new theme each week, with carefully selected stories, songs and activities that will captivate and engage your little ones. No registration required. Pokémon Club is held Fridays at 4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre. New to Pokémon? Learn how to play and develop your skills! We play Pokémon cards in the unlimited format, which means that you can use cards from any set to build your deck! Recommended for ages 8-14+. Please bring your own snacks.

Lego Club at the Library, every Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. come build, create and connect. Compete in Lego building challenges, create unique builds and build big!

STEM Saturday is at the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Stop by for STEM-based fun, games and crafts! Anyone under 8 needs to be accompanied by an adult. No STEM Saturday this week, enjoy the fair in Emo!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Fort Frances Lakers need billets! Billets are families who open their homes to junior hockey players during the season. Our players often come from out of town, and need a safe, supportive environment while pursuing their hockey dreams. Billet Families receive $600/month to help with additional expenses like food. The Rainycrest Tuck Shop is accepting donations– The Tuck Shop is open to residents, family, staff and visitors. Great items for donation are things like large stuffed bears, knick knacks, gift items and items for residents to place on their night stands or wall/door. Proceeds from the Tuck Shop go to the Rainycrest Auxiliary, which benefits residents. Donations can be dropped off inside the main entrance, labelled ATTN: Tuck Shop.
