Remembrance Day ceremonies at Couchiching First Nation will take place November 11 at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph behind the Band Office.

Remembrance Day Ceremonies for the Fort Frances Legion Branch 29 will be live streamed at 11 a.m. on the Legion’s Facebook page. The legion is also asking residents to show their support for veterans by decorating windows and doors with poppies. All Royal Canadian Legion services are closed to the public this year, due to COVID restrictions. Those wishing to pay respects or lay wreaths are asked to do so after the official ceremonies are complete.

The Pjs and Pearls Virtual Gala will be held November 28, organized by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Br#29. This Ladies Night IN will feature dinner, prizes, games and entertainment, all taking place over Facebook Live. Tickets are $40 per person. Future Majority is holding a town hall on the Green and Just Recovery and youth political priorities for northwestern Ontario, November 12 at 4 p.m. MP Patty Hajdu has confirmed her attendance. The Fort Frances Senior’s Centre is resuming activities, both on and off site. The arena auditorium will host BINGO, each Friday ay 1:30, beginning November 6. Tai Chi will be held Wednesday mornings, beginning November 4. The workshop is currently open, one or two days a week. The Christmas Hamper program will go ahead as planned this year. Christmas Hamper Applications are available at The Salvation Army Thrift Store and must be returned by Tuesday, November 10. The Thrift Store is open Monday thru Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Birch Bark Yarns is (virtually) hosting the November Mitt Knit-A-Long & there will be prizes!

Join the Air Cadets! The 908 Rainy lake Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is looking for new members. Registration is ongoing, and the program has no cost to join. A coat exchange is being held by The Associates of St. Marguerite d’Youville, in partnership with the Volunteer Bureau. Pick-up and drop-off is daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Family Centre, located at the Old CN Station. Coats, boots and mittens for men, women and children, will be accepted throughout the winter for those in need.

A Free Tipping Day, for lawn and garden waste, will be held at the Fort Frances landfill, November 7 from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m.

A craft sale will be held at 1216 First Street East in the garage. Dates are November 13 from 1-5 p.m. and Nov 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks required. Handicap accessible. Dress warmly. Please call ahead, 274-2099, to arrange your time to attend.

Fort Frances Girls Hockey Radio Bingo is back! Starting October 19, the bingo will run Mondays at 7 p.m., on CFOB. Prizes range from $500 to $1500. Cards are available at Windey’s, CC Complex, Rainy Lake Sports, Ski’s Variety, Einar’s Grocery, The Place, Taggs, Cloverleaf and Zig’s Place.

Flu shots, are by appointment only at the Fort Frances Community Clinic. Appointments will be available every Tuesday and Thursday in October, from 1-4 p.m. Patients are asked to wear a short-sleeved shirt, and a mask. Those over 65 should call their pharmacy for a high dose influenza vaccine. To make an appointment, call 274-3287 ext 223.

A Strollercize program is being held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. beginning at the Sorting Gap Marina. United Native Friendship Centre Urban Aboriginal Healthy Living for Kids worker Lori will guide participants through cardio and strength training sessions while your child will get some fresh air.

The Salvation Army has re-opened to customers. Hours have been modified, running Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Donations can be dropped at the door between 1 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Fort Frances Public Library has now reopened to the public with limited hours, but still offers curbside pick-up. Open hours are now Tuesdays 3-7 p.m., and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. To 3 p.m. Curbside pick-up is Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. To 2 p.m. and Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

The Valley Adult Learning Association is offering a variety of free online courses for adults age 19 or older. The courses are available in live format or independent learning modules, and technology supports may be available for those who meet criteria. Seven Generations Education Institute has organized a free online light yoga class for students, staff and community members. Everyone is welcome! All skill levels can participate. The Fort Frances Public Library will be posting online storytime videos on their Facebook page every Wednesday. Join Miss Sam as she shares storytime with you over the internet.

Fort Frances Rocks is a Facebook community designated for people in and around Fort Frances to paint, hide, discover and share unique and fun rock art. Check out the page for some guidelines for taking part in painting you own rocks or finding other contributors rocks in the community.

Anishinaabemodaa – Waking up Ojibwe – is a partnership between Seven Generations Institute, SayitFirst and the Rainy River District School Board. Their Facebook page posts videos and other resources to give First Nations kids, a way to hear and learn their own language.

The Fort Frances EarlyON Child and Family Centre has been posting fun craft and activity ideas on their Facebook page, that families can do at home.
