More than a Mood- Understanding Depression will take place at the Fort Frances Senior Centre, Thursday April 21 from 1-2 p.m. and Thursday April 28 from 7-8 p.m. The event is open to all older persons, and is presented by the CMHAFF’s District Mental health Services for Older Adult Program. The Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts will hold its Highlights Concert on Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. Check out the best of our local talent!

Spring workshops at the Museum are back! On April 23, Meredith Croswell will tach card making, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $51.25. On April 30, join Meaghan Spooner for Cookie Decorating, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $30. On may 7, Cher Pruys will teach Stained Glass Suncatchers, from 1-3 p.m. Cost is $80. On May 21 and 22, Jamie Nelson will teach Felting Spring Toads. Cost is $55. Register early – class size is limited!

Clean up your library fines, while helping someone in need. Bring in your unused full-sized or travel sized toiletry items to the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre by May 1, and your library fines will be forgiven. Items will be donated to the Substance Abuse Prevention Team, to help those working to get on their feet.

CMHA will be hosting guest speaker Joe Roberts, at the Rainy Lake Square on May 5, for Mental Health Week. Check out the keynote speaker and displays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Roberts overcame homelessness and drug addiction, and has a compelling story to tell.

Ducks Unlimited Fort Frances Committee is bringing back its annual fundraising banquet and charity auction. It’s scheduled for May 13 at La Place Rendez-Vous. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $65, and available at several local venues, including the Fort Frances Times office.

The annual Income Tax Clinic is being offered by the Volunteer Bureau. Assistance is available Tuesdays and Fridays from 1-5 p.m. throughout April.

Ukraine fundraisers

A fundraiser to benefit Ukraine is being organized by Tess Coish of Tess’ Kitchen. The caterer will be donating $2 from every dozen perogies or cabbage rolls sold being donated to Unite With Ukraine, which supplies protective equipment to the Ukrainian military. To place an order, call Tess at 274-0787 or message her over Facebook.

Atikokan Stands with Ukraine is a grassroots organization to raise funds and provide housing for several Ukrainian refugee families. They will be collecting monetary donations, as well as clothes, toys, bikes, and household items for the region’s refugees. They will be at the Atikokan Fellowship Church Saturday, April 23. Monetary donations over $100 are eligible for a tax receipt. E-transfers are accepted at atikokancf@gmail.com.
