With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Graham, son, life partner, brother, and friend.
Graham was born Nov. 24, 1960 in Fort Frances, Ont. and lived his entire life in his home town.
Graham was employed by the Town of Fort Frances for more than 30 years. He began his career under the guidance of his old friend and mentor, Metro Wowchuk, eventually achieving the position of Sportsplex Facilities Superintendent.
Graham leaves behind many good friends old and new as he was a true and loyal friend always willing to help others.
His family was very important to him, and he never missed a birthday or a “gathering.” He was our little comedian—silly and fun and the life of the party always.
Graham was very proud of his Scottish heritage and in 2011, he and Trish enjoyed a trip to Scotland, coming home with many photos, gifts, and stories.
Curling was a favourite pastime and he curled many years with his dad, brothers, nephews, and friends.
Graham loved all things Harley Davidson, right down to Sonsie’s dog collar. He looked forward to road trips on his Harley and participated annually in the Alzheimer motorcycle “Ride for Memories” event.
He was a talented photographer, and shared many beautiful photos and calendars with friends and family. He loved the great outdoors and spent his free time riding his Harley, fishing, boating, kayaking, and snowshoeing.
Graham will be best remembered for his love of singing and winning “People’s Choice Award.” He surprised us all with his hidden gift.
Graham was the youngest son of Helen (Salter) Matheson and the late Gordon Matheson.
Besides his mother, he leaves to mourn his life partner and best friend, Patricia Mainville; brothers, Don Matheson of Emo, Ont., Bruce (Kim) Matheson of Fort Frances, Ont., and Richard Matheson of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sisters, Janet (Wade) Bell of Alberton, Ont. and Kathleen Matheson of Fort Frances, Ont.
He also is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lauren Matheson (Guillaume), Jocelyn Matheson, Gordon Matheson, Donald (Krysta) Matheson, Chris (Aimee) Matheson, Nikki (Robin) Grynol, Robert Matheson (Dawn), Tyler Bell (Carleigh), Meghan Bell (Brent), and April Matheson.
He also leaves behind seven great-nieces and nephews; his auntie, May Matheson; his uncle, Don Salter; and a large extended family.
Graham was laid to rest with a private service.
The pallbearers were Darren McCormick, Ron Clapp, Garry Windego, Craig Kearney, Maurice Fillion, and Kevin Schulz.
The honourary pallbearers were Romain Gladu, Stewart Mainville, and his nieces and nephews.
Should family and friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to either the Alzheimers Society or the Community Chest c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
