When the C.N.R. Bridge was constructed in 1901, there was not the slightest sign of a town, except maybe in the minds of McKenzie, Mann & Company, who had purchased large areas of land along and near the right-of-way for future development.

Before the international bridge was constructed, automobiles were ferried between Baudette and Rainy River.
