It is with great sadness we announce that, after a long and courageous battle, Lyle Allan Hanninen passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015 with his family by his side.
Lyle was born in Powell River, B.C. on Oct. 9, 1956 to Raymond and Margaret Hanninen. He lived for a while in both Fort Frances, Ont. and Atikokan, Ont., and then came to live permanently in Fort Frances with his wife of 30 years, Rosemary Spellman.
He loved the outdoors and worked for many years at various log-cutting jobs in the area.
His greatest passions were hunting and fishing, and he always had to attend the Friday night draws at the local Legion with his friends.
Lyle was a kind and gentle man and if you were his friend, you knew you always could count on him whenever you needed any kind of help. Many times he would drop off his “catch of the day” so someone could have a feed of fresh fish for supper.
He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Hanninen in 2014; and his grandson, Andrew Spellman in 2008.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Rosemary Spellman; step-daughter, Dawn (Mike) Spellman; step-son, Steve (Deb) Spellman; and grandchildren, David, Bryson, Aerlynn, and Katelyn.
He also is survived by his father, Raymond Hanninen; brothers, Arnold of Atikokan, Ont., Roy of Winnipeg, Man., and Charles of Yellowknife, N.W.T.; sister, Carol (Paul) Dorion of Osoyoos, B.C. and their two children; as well as numerous cousins.
According to Lyle’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held downstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. for family and friends.
If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Tamrack House c/o Green Funeral Home, P.O. Box 427, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
